Lapa Rios Ecolodge
Lapa Rios is an effortlessly romantic eco lodge enshrouded by primary rainforest along a steep ridge in the Osa Peninsula. From its prime vantage point, Lapa Rios overlooks the Golfo Dulce as it converges with the pounding surf of the Pacific Ocean.
A series of 16 bungalows connected by a wooden boardwalk emerges gracefully from the forested ridge on stilts to provide extensive views across the 950 acre private nature reserve and out to sea. Each bungalow has been constructed from locally harvested materials with palm thatched roofs, open wall screenings, and a smattering of classic bamboo and rattan furnishings. An enormous deck scales the entrance of each bungalow with a hammock and outdoor garden shower.
Seasonal organic fruit and vegetables, fish caught in the wild and free range poultry are just some of the ingredients used to create a daily gourmet menu inspired by local cuisine in Restaurant Brisa Azul.
It is a ten minute walk downhill to the deserted beach or guests can enjoy a refreshing dip at the freeform pool located in the lodge grounds.
Lapa Rios Ecolodge is a Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Initiative and considered to be a pioneering model in ecotourism. A number of nature trails have been carefully constructed for visitors to explore and learn about the rich biodiversity that exists in abundance within this, one of the last remaining lowland tropical rainforests.
One of the guides, Guillermo, at the lodge recently filmed a Puma wondering through the grounds, take a look at John, our Costa Rica specialists blog to see the footage.
