Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo
Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo is a contemporary resort immersed in sprawling forest between two dramatic ocean vistas on a narrow peninsula in Guanacaste.
A collection of 155 guest rooms and suites dot the vast resort. All accommodation is awash with bold earthy interiors and furnished with dark indigenous hardwoods, bamboo and rattan. Marble-clad bathrooms are spacious with a deep soaking tub, walk-in shower and double vanity sinks.
Guest rooms are arranged amongst four-storey buildings that fringe the Pacific coastline and bay of Peninsula Papagayo, with sliding louvered doors opening out onto a private patio or balcony with magnificent views. The aptly named canopy suites appear carved into the hillside, offering sweeping views across the tropical dry forest. Each suite features one or three bedrooms, the larger of which benefits from a private plunge pool and all are based a golf cart ride or leisurely stroll from the main resort facilities. In addition, there are five private villas each comprising two or three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, and home entertainment system. Some villas also benefit from a private plunge pool.
Four Seasons houses a choice of four restaurants. Formal dinner reservations are required at ‘Caracol’ a steakhouse located in the Bella Vista Clubhouse, and for ‘Di Mare,’ an elegant restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean and serving sumptuous Italian cuisine. Dine al fresco at ‘Papagayo’ savouring locally inspired seafood specialities, or sample lighter menu options at ‘Congo’s Bar & Grill’ underneath the shade of a thatched sloping roof alongside the pool. Sushi and exotic cocktails accompanied by live music are offered daily at ‘Tico’s Bar’.
For those wishing to indulge, The Spa at Four Seasons encompasses 19 treatment rooms for a variety of face and body conditioning treatments, plunge pools and steam rooms. Active pursuits can be sought at three swimming pools situated alongside Playa Virador and Playa Blanca, a two-level fitness centre, four clay-style tennis courts, and for golfing enthusiasts the opportunity to experience a championship golf course designed by Arnold-Palmer. A concierge is also on hand to organise a variety of local activities including fishing and hiking tours.
