Toledo District
Often referred to as the 'forgotton land', Toledo is the southernmost district of Belize. Still relatively unexplored territory, the Toledo District consists of almost 1700 square miles of pristine rainforest, wildlife reserves, rivers, mountains, caves and traditional Maya villages.
Punta Gorda is the central hub of Toledo District with a relaxed and friendly community consisting mainly of Garifuna, Creole, Mopan, Kekchi Maya and East Indian people. It is the perfect base from which to explore the rest of southern Belize including the recently discovered Mayan ruins of Nim Li Punit, Rio Blanco waterfalls, Sapodilla Cayes, Monkey River and Punta Negra Lake.
