Chan Chich Lodge
Nestled in the lower plaza of an ancient Mayan city and embraced by a sprawling nature reserve of some 139,000 acres, Chan Chich eco-lodge lies in a unique setting near Gallon Jug.
Softly lit stone walkways meander alongside unexcavated temple mounds and tall shady palms to 12 individual cabanas. Each palm-thatched cabana is fully screened and cooled with ceiling fans. Providing spacious accommodation for two guests in a queen or king-size bedroom, each cabana also features a walk-in closet and a large bathroom, while interiors are brightened with a smattering of vivid art works and local hardwood furnishings. The expansive wraparound veranda is strung with an oversized hammock; ideal for relaxation amid the constant chatter of exotic birds in the surrounding rainforest reserve. An air-conditioned two-bedroom villa rests in the south eastern corner of the ancient plaza providing privacy and lavish comfort to small groups and families. The villa offers two king size en-suite bedrooms, a lounge with bar, and two external living spaces; one screened with a Jacuzzi and alfresco shower.
Owing to its unparalleled setting and teeming with wildlife, Chan Chich boasts an extensive system of maintained nature trails which can be explored by foot or horseback. Five cat species frequent Gallon Jug, while turtles and the occasional crocodile can be spotted in Laguna Verde, a small spring-fed lake ideal for canoeing. After a day of adventure the screened pool enclosure offers cool refreshment coupled with a cocktail from the bar before supper. Savour fine Belizean cuisine and a selection of international dishes prepared with local seasonal ingredients on the veranda in the main lodge.
