Black Rock River Lodge
Etched onto a steep forested hillside overlooking Macal River as it meanders through the awe-inspiring Black Rock Canyon, Black Rock River Lodge offers a dramatic setting from which to explore this cooler region of Belize.
This eco-lodge features a range of 13 beautiful cabins dotted around the resort with views across the canyon, waterfall or Macal River. All cabins are one-room structures with pitched roofs and large screened windows. The simple décor enhances a small showcase of local crafts and paintings that hang from the walls while the king or queen-size beds are accompanied by a smattering of rich mahogany furnishings. All cabins offer a private walk-in shower or bathtub, and a small porch area from which to admire the glorious views.
Dinner is served family style in the main lodge and prepared with seasonal organic ingredients sourced locally. Breakfast and lunch options are a la carte.
River tubing, canoeing, caving and mountain biking are just a handful of activities available at Black Rock River Lodge. With almost 300 species of resident and migratory birds recorded in the local area, bird watching is extremely rewarding here, coupled with the opportunity to spot Owls, Nightjars, and Potoos during Black Rock’s night hike through dense forest. In addition, explore the canyon by horseback, stopping off at various sites of interest including Flour Camp Cave and the unexcavated Maya site of Tipu.
