North Island - Central Plateau Holidays
This area is the centre of the countries volcanic activity. At its most active some 2000 years ago the region is now a great spot to witness bubbling mud pools & gushing geysers in Rotorua; do some fantastic walking in the Tongariro National Park, or just relax and enjoy some fishing or boating on Lake Taupo. This region also has a strong Maori history whose presence dates back to their exploration of the area in the 14th century.
Rotorua is a steaming, hissing landscape complete with exploding geysers, along with a tradition of hospitality and warmth more than one hundred years old from when tourism here first began.
The Lake Taupo region in New Zealand's volcanic heartland is rich in Maori tradition. It also has some of the country's finest untouched, uncrowded and unique landscapes. The lake itself was the result of the most violent volcanic eruption the world has seen in the past 5000 years - the ash affected the sunsets as far away as Europe and China.
