Pemba Island

Pemba island

The island of Pemba is the northernmost Island of the Zanzibar archipelago, lying off the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. It is situated about 50 kilometres to the north of the island of Zanzibar. Together with Mafia Island, they form the Spice Islands.

Due to its mix of ancestral influences, Pemba has a varied culture and history, making this an enchanted and interesting island to visit. Pemba offers excellent scuba diving and a chance to explore the wooded slopes and valleys of its lush landscape.

Pemba is also becoming well-known for its dive sites, with vertiginous drop-offs, untouched coral and very abundant marine life. The central town Chake-Chake is located on a hill with a view to the west on the bay and the tiny Misali island where the tides determine when a dhow can enter the harbour.
