Ngamba Island Tented Camp, Entebbe and Lake Victoria, Uganda
Ngamba Island Tented Camp is a comfortable tented camp at the edge of Lake Victoria. The main interest whilst staying at this lodge is the fascinating chimpanzees. The Chimpanzee sanctuary is located on the beautiful forested island of Ngamba. It is home to chimpanzees illegally removed from the wild and confiscated by the authorities; a raised platform enables close viewing and makes feeding time an exciting activity to watch. Unlike visiting chimpanzees in the wild, these chimpanzees will come up to you, will climb on your back, will pull your hair, will steal things from your pockets, and they will expect to be carried and will play with you. They play rough! The entrance fees paid goes towards looking after the chimpanzees.
The camp itself offers four twin-bedded tents each with en suite facilities and a private wooden veranda. There is the option to dine either in the dining chalet or at the deck on the lake. When not with the chimpanzees at Ngamba Island Tented Camp you will be able to enjoy the bird-life, kayaks around the island bays searching for wildlife such as monitor lizards, otters and abundant bird life (154 recorded bird species) or visit a local fishing village. Other activities include sunset cruises, fishing or just relaxing on your tent's private deck overlooking Lake Victoria with a drink while watching thousands of bats emerge from the forest during a colourful Uganda sunset.
