The obvious highlight of a Uganda safari is the endangered Mountain Gorilla and trekking to see these creatures in the wild is truly an unforgettable experience. Uganda however, is a spectacular country on all levels as you have the Congolese rainforests of the west meeting the open savannahs of the east and it is this dramatic habitat of rainforests, rivers, lakes, snow-capped mountains and savannahs that makes this a very special wildlife destination.
In addition to the gorillas, Uganda is home to some of the highest concentration of primates on the planet with some of the best chimpanzee safaris to be enjoyed in the forests of Kibale and Kyambura Gorge. The Big 5 can also be found here (but without the tourists in tow!) including tree-climbing lions and the large tuskers in Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you can also enjoy the game on foot and by boat. Trekking is also available in the Rwenzori Mountains.
The birding here is also world famous, with over 1,000 species including the colourful turaco, the rare Shoe Bill stork and the grey crowned crane – Uganda’s national bird. This wonderful mix of wildlife and habitat, not to mention the incredible welcome you will receive and the number of excellent, private, authentic lodges means that Uganda remains one of our most exciting African destinations.
