  • Family owned private reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park
  • Exceptional guides and luxurious accommodation
  • A strong conservation ethic

Guy Aubrey Chalkley developed the area into a game reserve and his dream was for his descendants to continue the dream. Today you will find Lion Sands Reserve as being one of the foremost privately owned reserves in the Sabi Sands on the western boarder of the Greater Kruger National Park. Lion Sands reserve is actively involved in the conservation of indigenous species, especially the endangered rhino.

When you stay at any of the lodges on the reserve you not only get to see the wonderful wildlife but the experienced guides will do their utmost to explain the predicament of African wildlife and the lengths the reserve goes to with their conservation efforts. The community, wildlife and the land are all important in the ethical approach of Lion Sands. There are three lodges on the reserve.

Ivory Lodge – situated in the heart of the reserve this ultra luxurious, award winning lodge is small and contemporary with clean lines, and an uncluttered approach. Each room has its own heated pool and fabulous view over the Sabie river where a multitude of animals come to drink.

River Lodge – the larger of the three, River lodge is the soul of Lion Sands where you are hosted by a family of staff with a multitude of amenities on hand. Offering two room categories this camp suits the more gregarious safari enthusiast.

1933 Lodge – the original family home invites families and larger private groups to enjoy the solitude in a home away from home. With space to sleep up to eight children and an additional four luxurious bedrooms for the adults, this lodge comes complete with private rangers, housekeepers and a chef.

We like to support Lion Sands as they have sound conservation ethics and offer a wonderful safari experience to everyone.
