Mpumalanga is dominated by the Kruger National Park and the adjacent private game reserves of Sabi Sabi, Timbavati and Manyeleti - all home to the Big Five.
Best time to go: April to November, as this is winter time, the region should be largely rain free.
Best game viewing time: April to November, the days and nights are dry and can be cold in the morning and at night. The vegetation is thin and water is less abundant, so you will tend to find more animals around water.
From November to April, the days are hot and humid, often with afternoon rainstorms which can be spectacular electric affairs. Flowers and young animals are abundant and the grass can be high and the trees dense and vibrantly green.
