Le Quartier Français offers more than luxury rooms and gourmet delights. As one of the longest running establishments in the Wine lands, with deep roots in the community, Le Quartier Français offers guests local experiences that create lifelong memories. This is only possible using the knowledge that Susan Huxter, owner, and Linda Coltart, General Manager, have amassed through their years of living and working in Franschhoek. Together they open doors for Le Quartier Français guests that are closed to other Franschhoek visitors.
There is something for everyone, for the wine buff; meet wine makers and tour private cellars at wine estates that are not open to the public. Susan’s brother owns one of the leading wine estates! For the foodies, take a private cooking lesson at Susan’s house followed by a dinner party with locals. Alternatively take part in a series of interesting, and unusual, hands-on food related experiences that lead guests on an inspiring culinary adventure. Designed by the award-winning Le Quartier Français chef, Margot Janse, and managed by the Le Quartier Français Culinary Concierge team.
For those with a love of art spend a day with the Le Quartier Français Art Curator who personally accompanies guests on a journey of discovering local art and tasting wines. If your interests lie in history take a rare and exclusive glimpse into Nelson Mandela’s final years of incarceration at the Victor Verster Prison. See how he lived his last few imprisoned years, hear amusing and humbling stories, and walk through the same gate Mandela walked out to freedom! Or discover the Franschhoek of yesteryear on a bespoke guided walk with resident historian.
For the caring traveller; help with the baking of highly nutritional muffins and deliver them to the local pre-primary school. Due to the support of Le Quartier Français guests, this Isabelo (Sharing is Caring) now feeds over 100 children 5 days a week.
For the fitness fanatic; take to the mountains and explore the walking and biking trails in this amphitheatre of natural beauty, these can be guided by the hotel general manager herself!! For the younger traveller; as a mother of 2 boys, Susan knows kids, and the hotel has always warmly welcomed travellers of all ages. With Le Quartier Français VIK’s (Very Important Kids) bespoke experiences are not just for adults - from cooking glasses, art classes, adventures on horseback, animal parks there is enough to keep the most creative or adventurous child entertained for days.
