La Digue Holidays
Lying forty kilometres from Mahe and only seven kilometres from Praslin, La Dique is the fourth largest island in the Seychelles. This is a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a taste of the traditional. On it, bicycles and ox carts still hold sway as the primary means of transport where the visitor can choose from a selection of small hotels and guesthouses.
Best time to go: Seychelles are situated outside of the cyclone belt and are a year round destination. May to September offers a drier and cooler days, with choppy seas on south eastern coasts. During October to March offers calm tropical weather, and there can be rain.
Time difference: Seychelles is four hours ahead of GMT
There is no risk of Malaria, yellow fever or Cholera. You only need a yellow fever certificate if you have visited a yellow fever area a week before.
Getting to La Digue:
By Boat (from Mahé via Praslin): 1 hour from Mahé to Praslin and 20 minutes from Praslin to La Digue. By Plane (from Mahé via Praslin): 15 minutes flight from Mahé to Praslin and 20 minutes from Praslin to La Digue. By Helicopter (direct from Mahé): 20 minutes.
Things to do on La Digue : Enjoy an Ox-cart ride, the remote beaches of Grand Anse, Petite Anse, Anse Cocos, Anse Source d’Argent. Visit colonial houses, the historial cemetery, the Copra factory, the Vanilla plantation and the giant tortoises.
