Etosha National Park Holidays

Waterhole, Michael Pliza, etosha national park, namibia

Etosha National Park is one of Southern Africa's finest and most important Game Reserves. Situated in northern Namibia, Etosha, meaning "Great White Place", is dominated by a massive shimmering mineral pan, which is flat, rugged and, for much of the year, dry and dusty. Etosha National Park is one of the first places on any itinerary for a holiday in Namibia.

The main entrance to the park is called the "Andersson Gate" situated near Okaukuejo in the south. The eastern entrance is called the "Von Lindequist Gate" and is near Namutoni. The latest park entrance is the "Nehale lya Mpingana Gate" gate, in the north-east. The game viewing in Etosha National Park is some of the best in the whole of Southern Africa, the best time being from May to September which are the cooler months in Namibia. With over one hundred mammal species and three hundred bird species, it is the dry barren backdrop that makes this park so magical and unforgettable. In the west, it is possible to track rhino on foot and see these wonderful beasts at close proximity.

There is a selection of camps within the park itself and on the outskirts of the park. The Onguma Safari Camps are situated on the eastern side of Etosha, bordering Fisher's Pan, in the region considered one of Namibia's best-kept secrets.
