The Desert Homestead
The Desert Homestead lies in a wide grassy valley, sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft mountains with a view reaching the distant dunes of the Namib Desert in the west. In this exquisite position, it offers simple but stylish accomodation in thatched chalets which were designed with the fragile beauty of this remarkable environment in mind. The Desert Homestead will ensure you an unrivalled respite from the desert extremes. Tranquil surroundings, alfresco dining, delectably fresh farm cuisine, refreshing dips in the pool, stunning sunsets and sunrises are the basic pleasures at the lodge.
Desert Homestead offers twenty thatched, en-suite chalets, all luxuriously decorated in pale linens and dark wood riempie furniture. Each unit has its own verandah under a latte canopy with Northern views extending to the Rotterkaum Mountains, the ideal retreat after a busy day in the dunes. Inside they provide luxury, with large single or double beds and en-suite bathroom with shower and toilet. The main lodge facilities include a lounge and dining area, serving the best in African cuisine and a stunning swimming pool, perfect for an afternoon dip to cool off from the warm Namibian afternoons.
The Lodge offers a sundowner drive in the evenings which includes a leisurely nature drive, slowly winding up a mountain, and culminating in gin and tonics and snacks, before venturing home again. They also offer guided Sossusvlei excursions, guided Naukluft excursions and tours to the Neuras Wine Estate. Scenic flights, hot-air ballooning and quad biking can all be arranged as part of the activities.
Horseback trails is one of the more popular activities to pursue whether it be for the breakfast ride or the sundowner ride. The Homestead is the only lodge of its kind in the area to offer stables and horseback activities.
