Sossusvlei Desert Lodge
Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is situated in the northern foothills of the vast, privately owned NamibRand Nature Reserve. In the reserve, the eerily beautiful Namib Desert has been reclaimed for conservation to create the largest private nature reserve in Southern Africa, exclusive to lodge residents. It's a world of vast space, far horizons, desert-scapes and jagged mountain heights. The reserve lies on the eastern boundary of the Namib-Naukluft National Park. Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is a retreat from which to explore this African gem.
The lodge consists of ten stone and glass desert suites which combine unprecedented sophistication with the stark beauty of the desert landscape. Each of the suites is spaced well apart, and is a private haven with a shaded deck overlooking the far horizons of the Namib Desert and has a split-level bedroom and living room with fireplace, fully-stocked personal bar, air conditioning and a service-intercom to the main lodge. The split-level main lodge includes a fire-lit bar, for the cooler Namibian evenings, a comfortable sitting room, mezzanine library with CD and book collection, a swimming pool, with water sourced from the underground spring and a wraparound veranda, perfect for watching the animals that are drawn to the nearby waterhole.
Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is able to organise a range of activities including exhilarating scenic game drives in open 4x4 vehicles in the NamibRand Nature Reserve, quad-biking through the desert and exploring the beautiful surroundings by guided walking trails. Serene activities including scenic flights and hot air balloon trips are also available.
There is also an in house astronomer for those interested in the amazing star gazing opportunities above the Namib Desert.
