Okonjima Lodge
Okonjima Lodge is nestled amongst the Ombokoro Mountains, a Herero name meaning, "place of the baboons". The lodge is family run and is also the home of the AfriCat Foundation, a charitable organization that rescues and relocates cheetah, leopard and other cats from farmland to conservation areas. Okonjima Lodge is divided into Bush Camp, Main Camp, The Villa and the Bush Suite.
The Main camp’s accomodation consists of ten luxuriously appointed double stone rooms and three twin Meru tents. All of the accomodation at the Main camp has private en suite bathrooms and overlooks the lush garden and the open-fire entertainment area.
The Bush Camp is situated at the edge of the wilderness area, about three kilometres from Main camp. Offering eight double stone and thatched cottages, with complete privacy, and the uniquely designed canvas paneling which may be rolled up to allow a stunning 180°view of the bushveld. In front of each chalet there is also a birdbath which is visited by a variety of birds and small mammals.
The Bush Suite is located close to Bush Camp and offers supreme levels of exclusivity for couples or groups not exceeding four people. The thatched Suite has two separate bedrooms which both have a private en suite bathroom a living space which comprises of a spacious lounge, a dining area and a wood-burning fireplace. There is also a wide veranda which overlooks the uniquely designed large swimming pool. The Suite is entirely private and has its own chef, guide and Landover.
The Villa, at the lodge is an exclusive self-contained villa with a private chef, guide and vehicle. There is room for groups of two to eight adults and it also perfect for families with children over eight. The villa is situated in a secluded wilderness area overlooking a natural waterhole and is approximately ten kilometres from Okonjima Main Camp.
The wonderful Main House at Okonjima Lodge consists of an up-to-date kitchen with both gas and electrical cooking facilities. The living spaces are punctuated by a spacious lounge and dining area with an open, wood-burning fireplace. The Main House also sports a magnificent infinity pool, surrounded on three sides by African, red teak decking and a walkway to an open, shaded 'Sala' - for some serious birding and afternoon napping - incorporating a roof fan to stir the gentle breeze that crosses the adjoining waterhole.
Activities available from Okonjima include radio-tracking rescued cheetah and leopard on foot which offers excellent photographic opportunities. There is also the opportunity to visit the AfriCat centre and joining a guide on the informative and interactive Bushman trail. Other self-guided walking trails and birding are also available.
