Ibo Island is situated in the Quirimbas Archipelago of northern Mozambique. The island itself has been nominated for World Heritage status and has been described as one of the most exceptional and atmospheric islands in the world. Ibo Island Lodge is a converted house which is situated on the beachfront promenade of the village. From the adorned windows you can see romantic dhows sail out to sea on each high tide. Each of the rooms are differently designed and furnished but the overall style of is one of simple stylish luxury. Each room boasts an array of antique furniture and a giant teak bed with sumptuous linen. Most rooms look onto a verandah overlooking either the waterfront or the gardens. Welcoming plantation chairs invite you to rest a while as the sun sets. Meals are fresh from the sea and the vegetable garden and always delicious.
Activities - Fully guided activities at the Ibo Island Lodge include an Ibo Island historical experience which is a remarkable, and emotional journey through the history of Ibo. Try sea kayaking in calm flat waters through the prolific mangroves or island hopping under the expert leadership of locally sourced guides. When there you definitely have to try and get out to the sand spit which surfaces at low tide, take a picnic. Other activities in offer are relaxing massages, scuba diving, dhow sailing and deep sea fishing.
Ibo Island Dhow and Kayak safaris – these are new and exciting safaris whereby you leave Ibo island and explore the surrounding islands by traditional Dhow or Kayak with a guide on a private or set departure basis. This is an unmissable experience to go where few have gone before. Each night is spent sleeping out in a fully serviced tented camp and the days are spent exploring, swimming snorkelling and fishing.
