South Coast

Mauritius South west Coastline

Compared to the rest of Mauritius the southern coast is relatively undeveloped but still manages to include some of the country’s most wonderful scenery and wildest landscapes. The main area for tourists and travellers is the Blue Bay region due to its vast expanse stunning beaches and crystal-clear waters; the majority of the rest of the southern coast has no beaches. The vast landscapes make this region a perfect place for land based activities, mainly golf: Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort and Heritage Golf and Spa Resort are two prime examples of how the beautiful scenery has been incorporated into luxury accommodation.

There are still some traditional towns and villages hidden around the southern coast, which is considered to be the most ‘Mauritian’ area. A true hidden treasure is located a short drive away, along the coastal road from Souillac to Le Morne and shouldn’t be missed. Other highlights of the region include the sleepy town of Mahébourg, the wonderful nature reserve Île aux Aigrettes and imposing Lion Mountain, which dominates the region.
