Mauritius lily pads

Northern Mauritius has a lot to offer African travellers venturing to the wonderful islands of Mauritius, with its spectacular beaches and choice of undiscovered areas. Grand Baie is the centre of the country’s travel industry and boasts Mauritius’ premium restaurants, shops and hotels including Le Mauricia, The Royal Palm and Paradise Cove. The small villages around Grand Baie, Trou aux Biches, Mont Choisy and Pereybère are growing at an astonishing pace and all have a huge amount to offer travellers seeking relaxation and rejuvenation with their wonderful white sand beaches and sparkling blue water. The lagoon which is sheltered from the prevailing winds, offers a host of water sports including water-skiing, sailing and kayaking and is especially good for snorkeling and diving.

For travellers venturing inland there are some true gems to be found, from the plains of sugar-cane fields, to the historic remains of volcanic boulders which were originally stacked by slaves and indentured laborers. For the flora and fauna enthusiasts there are also the botanical Gardens and the popular L’Aventure du Sucre, a museum dedicated to Mauritius’ traditional colonial export.
