East Coast
With its subtle blend of tropical elegance and fine Mauritian hospitality the eastern coast of Mauritius feels enviably untouched by tourism. It offers some of Mauritius’ best beaches, with long stretches of pure white sands and crystal clear waters. East Mauritius is definitely the most exclusive side of the island and this is reinforced by the congregation of luxury hotels such as The Beau Rivage Resort and The Residence, around certain districts including Belle Mare. However, there are still hidden gems waiting to be explored, the relaxed Trou d’Eau Douce has managed to preserve the feeling of a sleepy fishing village despite its close proximity to the grand hotels.
Inland from the eastern coast, there is some beautiful scenery, from the fields of sugar cane which are interspersed with vegetable gardens that slope gently up towards the stunning mountain ranges. The main town of Centre de Flacq has a good market and is also useful for its banks, shops and transport connections.
