Mandrare River Camp

Mandrare River camp Mandrare River Camp tent

Mandrare River Camp is situated in the unexplored South Eastern corner of Madagascar. The camp itself is nestled in the shade of Tamarind Trees and set in the grounds of an old colonial sisal plantation house. The area has a lot of cultural history surrounding it and the camp is set opposite the sacred ancestral forests of the Antandroy Tribe. A stay in the area allows the opportunity to experience the rich culture of the Antandroy and the pristine areas of wildlife, home to the ring-tailed, Mouse and Sifaka Lemurs that they have preserved. Additional wildlife is abundant in the Mandrare River Camp area with Verreaux's Sifaka, Ring Tailed Maki, Mouse Lemur and White Foot Sportive Lemurs as well as exceptional birding. All activities are included and allow for the opportunity to see Spiny Forest, Baobabs, Deciduous Gallery Forest, Littoral Dry Forest and the impressive sand dunes at Lac Anony.

The camp consists of only six private tents which are generously spread out on the riverbank, each offering spectacular views of the river and surrounding landscape. Each double or twin-bedded tent has en-suite facilities with solar water heating and solar power for lighting in the evenings. The camp aims to create a unique wildlife experience and allow travellers to feel completely at nature with their surroundings.

Overall flight transfers and travel within Madagascar can be reduced by combining a stay a Mandrare with some time at Manafiafy Beach and Rainforest Lodge which is within driving distance or a 45 minute flight transfer from Mandrare River Camp. This combination also allows for the opportunity to visit seven different ecosystems and habitats, all in the heart of southern Madagascar.
