North Madagascar Holidays
Northern Madagascar has a large amount to offer the intrepid traveller: from snorkelling in the crystal emerald sea, relaxing on the white sandy beaches, exploring the mangrove swamps and strolling through the alleys of century old baobabs are all characteristics of Madagascar’s most interesting and diverse region.
The eclectic region of Northern Madagascar is divided into two districts. Situated on the north western coast of Madagascar Nosy Be is Madagascar’s premiere relaxing beach destination, with its prime snorkelling and diving waters and exquisite white beaches. The island has a perfect climate: sunshine and brief showers, and, as with much of Madagascar, the environment is diverse allowing travellers the opportunity to enjoy both the beach and the culture. The island was developed for tourism earlier than the rest of Madagascar therefore the infrastructure is more geared up to luxurious travel. Nosy Be is as upscale as the country gets, with a number of larger resorts and hotels including The Amarina Hotel.
The Diego Suarez area of Northern Madagascar is well known as Madagascar’s best-kept secret. It has two wildlife-rich national parks, including Amber Mountain National Park, where new species of lemur are still being discovery amongst a variety of bird and plant life. The miles of endless walking trails traverse through psychedelic forests of red rocks and dense trees. On the coastal areas of this region, sandy shores are fringed with towering palm trees. Diego Suarez is also great for the adventurous traveller seeking activities from quad biking in the sand dunes to kite surfing in a secluded bay. The Domaine de Fontenay is a fabulous property, located on the slopes of Amber Mountain National Park in rich tropical forest surroundings and provides a great base for exploration.
