Fianarantsoa Holidays
Located in Southern Madagascar, Fianarantsoa is the country’s second largest city and is considered to be one of the more attractive Malagasy towns.
It slightly resembles Antananarivo due to its hillside setting but lacks the bustle and charm of the country’s capital. The city is split into two main areas and there is quite a contrast between the dreary Lower Town and the charming Upper Town. The Upper Town with its narrow winding streets and plethora of churches should be visited for the wonderful views, especially in the early morning when the mist is curling up from the valley. Tsara Guest House is a great base for exploration of the upper region and is one of the best luxury accomodations in the city.
There is plenty to do in and around the city itself, from strolling round the hectic old town’s narrow streets, crammed with touts and vendors to visiting the infamous Fianarantsoa popular local markets, where local women draped in bright sarongs shop for fresh fruit and vegetables with a screeching chicken carefully tucked under one arm.
