The Masoala peninsular is one of the largest and most diverse areas of virgin rainforest in Madagascar and probably contains the largest number of unclassified species. Masoala also includes three marine reserves, designed to protect the peninsula's coral reef systems. Humpback whales use the nearby Bay of Antongil for calving and can be seen from the park's coastline. Situated in Maroantsetra, one of Madagascar's most authentic towns is the beautiful Relais du Masoala. Situated in seven hectares of gardens and coconut groves, this well managed establishment boasts views over the Bay of Antongil.

Relais du Masoala consists of fifteen beautiful thatched bungalows providing spacious accommodation in stunning surroundings. Each of the bungalows has a private en suite bathroom and a shady veranda, offering a perfect place to relax and take in the wonder of The Masoala peninsula. The main facilities at Relais du Masoala  include a relaxed dining room and bar and a swimming pool, perfect as an afternoon base to cool off in the warm Madagascan days.

Relais du Masoala runs tours to Nosy Mangabe, bird watching in the Masoala Peninsula, pirogue excursions up river, whale-watching in September, and visits to the small forest near the hotel where the aye-aye lemur can be seen and cultural experiences to the local village.
