Southern Kenya: Amboseli, Chyulu Hills and Tsavo
Lying on Kenya's southern flank are the great Amboseli plains, arguably one of Kenya’s best places in which to view elephant.
Long associated with thick volcanic dust and clusters of Doum palm trees around small desert oases, this park has a special magic that has made it the setting for so many documentaries. With a backdrop of Kilimanjaro, its wildlife enables it to be an excellent location for a true introduction to the wonders Kenya has to offer, accommodation including Tortilis Camp and Galdessa Tented Lodge.
The nearby Chyulu Hills are the natural border between the Kamba and Maasai people and here there is the option to ride and walk amongst the vast array of game in the rolling hills. Accommodation within this area is limited; Campi Ya Kanzi offers a great base for exploration of the surrounding beauty.
On the far side of the hills lies Tsavo National Park, which, bigger than Wales, is the largest park in the whole of Kenya. It has been split into east and west parks and offers an interesting diverse array of flora and fauna. Tsavo suffered badly in the days of poaching but has now rebuilt its former wildlife populations and has some of the best natural landscapes in the whole of Kenya.
