Deloraine

Deloraine Breakfast Deloraine Horses

Deloraine was built in 1920 by Lord Francis Scott, a prominent early settler, and has to be one of the grandest examples of colonial architecture in the whole of Kenya. Deloraine is situated on the western side of the Rift Valley at Rongai and is ideally positioned for safaris coming from the east of the Rift Valley on their way to the Mara. Deloraine is set in the middle of the large commercial farm on the lower slopes of Londiani Mountain, a forest and bamboo shrouded volcano, on the western edge of the Great Rift Valley. The gardens at Deloraine are magnificent, boasting a croquet lawn, swimming pool, and tennis court and a polo field.

Accommodation at Deloraine comprises of five elegantly decorated double bedrooms in the main house and three smaller rooms in a detached cottage.  Each of the large spacious rooms in the main house has a private en suite bathroom with a bath and reflects the 1920’s era in which the house was built. The main facilities include a large sitting room and dining room, a perfect place to spend an evening after a long days riding.

There are forty or so horses on the farm and although some are used for safaris, there are always plenty of polo ponies to ride, the farm and the mountain providing more than adequate countryside to explore. Lakes Nakuru, Bogoria and Baringo are within easy reach and a day spent on the farm is never wasted.
