The valley that brings us so many wonders throughout Africa can also be found in Ethiopia. Situated south east of Addis, this chain of seven lakes is a birder’s paradise. Each lake offers a retreat from the dusty Ethiopian highlands and respite after the bumpy roads of the Omo. Lakes Ziway, Langano, Shayla, Awassa, Abaya and Chamo offer everything from nature to water sports and relaxation. Shashemene is a town situated along the lakes famous for its Rastafarian history, but I would not really suggest you visit it with high hopes!
