Always looking to promote safaris beyond the ordinary, Steppes Travel has over 10 years firsthand experience of Congo and Central African Safaris. These largely unexplored and incredibly wild regions are now becoming a little more accessible due to the charter flights from Brazzaville into Odzala and the opening of the new boutique camps from Wilderness at Lango and Ngaga. The region lies in the heart of the Congo basin and aside from a host of forest biodiversity, holds by far the majority of the world population of Western Lowland Gorillas, with density in Odzala-Kokoua being the highest recorded. Here you can enjoy forest walks to the Bai’s where the gorillas are found, boat safaris, birding tours and journeys on small pirogues to explore the forest itself.
For those looking for a more in-depth adventure, we also offer small group safaris to the Central African Republic and the wilds of Dzanga Sangha National Park, plus Nouabale Ndoki in the Congo. You will be staying in the simple riverside bush camp at Dzanga Lodge and Mbeli Camp, used by a number of wildlife researchers from the WWF and WCS, who you will get to meet for a fascinating insight into their work. Here you can not only enjoy gorilla trekking, but also search for forest elephants, meet the local Ba’Aka Communti country, discover forest birding and village visits.
