Trip Overviews
African Horseback Safaris - Okavango Delta. The horses at African Horseback Safaris are a variety of Thoroughbreds, Namibian Hanovarians, Arabs and Kalahari-Arab crosses. An African Horseback Safari is exciting but not strenuous, with four to six hours spent in the saddle. Macatoo Camp serves as the base for the safari, which are typically 7-nights or longer, enabling you to experience the Okavango Delta in depth by staying in a mobile fly camp (dependent on season and flood levels). Alternatively a minimum of 3 or 4 nights is recommended and non-riders can enjoy alternate activities such as game drives, seasonal boating, mokoro trips and fishing.
Skill level required: Intermediate to experienced riders
Okavango Horse Safaris – Okavango Delta. This safari takes place in a private concession area of over 2500 sq kilometers, using three different camps. Itineraries are built around 5, 7 or 10 nights with fixed departure dates. Between 4 – 6 hours are spent in the saddle, while afternoons can be spent enjoying a variety of activities such as swimming, game drives, mokoros (traditional dug out canoe) or walking). The team of horses are made up of thoroughbreds and thoroughbred crosses, Arabians and Arabian crosses and Boerperds.
Skill level required: Intermediate to experienced riders.
Makgadikgadi Horse Riding (NEW) - Makgadikgadi Pans. Explore this wild and unspoilt area on horseback, providing exceptional landscape with the vast salt pans and sprawling open woodlands. This five-night horseriding safari operates on fixed departure dates throughout the year and comprises of three nights at Camp Kalahari followed by two nights fly camping out on the Makgadikgadi salt pans. The fly camp is made up of comfortable dome tents, a central mess tent, loos and bucket showers. Enjoy a long cool drink as you watch the sunset followed by dinner out under the magnificent Kalahari sky.
Okavango Delta Horse Riding - Motswiri Camp. With a mixture of open flood plain, dry savannah and riverine bush, the terrain provides some great riding experiences. This informal and chaming camp has between twenty and twenty four horses, ranging from Thoroughbreds to Boerperds, Arabs and Kalahari crosses, large to small. Up to six hours per day are spent in the saddle, therefore riding fitness is a distinct bonus. For non-riders, there are a range of other activities such as walking safaris, power boat, canoe and mekoro excursions or simply escape to the plunge pool for a spot of sunbathing or the secluded viewing platform to watch the elephants bathing.
