COMO Hotels and Resorts opened the Uma Paro in 2004, a 30-room hotel offering five-star comfort and unique style in the wildly beautiful Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan.
Located on a hilltop, the hotel overlooks the town of Paro, one of the main cultural centres of Bhutan and the nation's only airport. The 20 rooms and nine villas surrounded by pines, combine understated modernity with intricate Bhutanese detailing. The design maximises comfort with oversized bathrooms and separate showers, DVD players, heated towel racks, mini bars and in-room yoga mats. In the two suites there are separate sitting, dining and study areas. In the eight one-bedroom villas enjoy a private spa for in-room massages. The headline two-bedroom villa has all this plus an even greater privilege of space and endless views.
Based from Uma it is possible to experience some of the cultural highlights such as - the Paro Festival in April, the Thimpu festival in October - with other Buddhist activities throughout the year. Hiking, incredible bird watching, excursions to monasteries, dzongs and markets are also on offer.
Uma Paro is also currently developing a series of luxury lodges at other key locations, allowing guests to venture further a field. We will keep you informed!
