Coffee Region, Colombia

Coffee Region

The Coffee Region, also known as La Zona Cafetera or Coffee Triangle, is a beautiful region of Colombia which lies between the three cities of Manizales, Pereira and Armenia.

Colombia produces some of the best quality coffee in the world and the vast majority is grown in this part of the country.

Explore the fertile valleys and visit the numerous coffee plantations, many with beautifully preserved and colourful haciendas, where visitors can trace the coffee making process from start to finish. Some of these lovely haciendas now offer a comfortable place to stay.

A little more about the Coffee Region

The region is not only renowned for its excellent coffee; it offers visitors the chance to experience picturesque working towns such as Salento and Filandia with their brightly coloured guadua or bamboo balconies. Sample the perfect espresso or cappuccino in one of the local coffee shops, where you can also sip a local rum or aguardiente!

Suggested areas to visit in the Coffee Region include Los Nevados National Park and the Cocora Valley, a stunning national park of rolling hills covered with temperate rainforest and picturesque rivers, all flanked by towering volcanoes. It is most famous for being one of the few areas still home to Colombia’s national tree, the endangered Quindio wax palm which can grow up to 60 metres in height.
