This is a truly magical place and a rare find. 2 hours east of Jodphur, Chhatra Sagar comprises just 11 tents pitched on a dam overlooking a lake, run by the Nimaj family. It is very much a family concern with one son running the place, another organizing the jeep safaris, his wife and his mother doing the cooking. (The food is fantastic). They all live in a house at one end of the dam with a small garden.
The family own all the land all around it so there is no one as far as the eye can see. The birdlife is wonderful here, the lake being a major attraction for several species. Take a walk around the lake or Nandi can take you out on a jeep safari through his farm and into the village which is totally unspoilt with really friendly people and little begging.
The tents themselves are all in a row and nicely done. They are comfortably furnished with fixed bathrooms that have excellent water pressure with hot and cold water. One is not allowed to walk in front of the tents which allows you to sit, undisturbed and gaze out from the dam, over the lake to enjoy the sunset in peace.
