Casa Branca, Trancoso

Trancoso is undoubtedly the trendiest beach resort in all the north eastern state of Bahia. This former slave town has progressively developed outwards from the central Quadrado, a grassy main square where local life mingles with the growing tourism; boys play football here while women stop to chat outside the numerous bars, shops and restaurants. It is a slow paced and relaxed place, with a hint of the chic transpiring into a strongly African inspired and traditionally Brazilian culture. Antique shops and stalls are sided by boutiques selling the latest wares of Rio and Sao Paulo's most fashionable designers.

A short drive from the Quadrado is an area known as Terravista, set at the top of a hill with dominating views over the ocean and boasting one of the best 18 hole golf courses in all of South America. The Casa Branca is one of the loveliest homes inside this exclusive gated community. A spacious structure with vast open plan sitting room and balconies opens onto a large swimming pool. With direct access to excellent golfing just outside its gardens it is also within easy reach of the white sandy beaches of this marvellous coast.
