Tailor-Made Holiday

Botswana - Delta & Desert in Style

Stay at a pair of beautifully designed lodges in the Okavango and Kalahari

9 days

from £9,195pp

Combine two elegant lodges, each located in starkly different environments. Begin with Sandibe and the Okavango Delta’s wetland landscapes, before flying by helicopter to Feline Fields, a beautiful retreat in the heart of the arid Kalahari.

  • Stay at two beautiful lodges in contrasting landscapes
  • Discover the diversity of the delta, with its abundance of wildlife
  • Meet the Bushmen of the Kalahari – the original inhabitants of this great desert
  • Fly over the delta and into the Kalahari by private helicopter

Begin in the Okavango Delta, staying at Sandibe Lodge. Very different from the more traditional tented camps, this pangolin-inspired lodge stands out for its remarkable architectural designs. Spacious and comfortable, it features dramatic wooden arches that curve upwards, supporting a shell-like roof.

With service to match the inspired design, Sandibe provides a wonderful place to relax at the heart of Botswana’s greatest wetland wilderness. However, morning and late afternoons are inevitably spent away from camp, in search of the Okavango’s incredible wildlife.

Explore in total seclusion, in a private concession that is rich with wildlife. Encounter prides of lions stalking antelopes, watch elephants bathing in rich mud and spot kingfishers as they flit low across the waterways.

Feline Fields

After several days, leave the watery landscapes of the delta behind, flying by private helicopter across some of its most dramatic terrain. Watch as the greens give way to browns, as the Kalahari reclaims the verdant floodplains.

Deep in the western Kalahari, on private land, Feline Fields looks out over the dry bush. Here, stay in a beautiful two-storey suite, with views across the desert landscape. Owner-run and aimed at total escape, this beautifully isolated lodge is completely immersed in the Kalahari.

Venture out on foot or by vehicle, exploring the desert. Wildlife is relatively scarce, but species that thrive here are specially adapted to the harsh conditions. Also explore by fatbike – ideal for the sandy terrain – with two of these provided with each suite.

The highlight of any stay at Feline Fields is time spent with the local Bushmen. These hunter gatherer people were the original inhabitants of the Kalahari and their culture survives, relatively intact, in the modern era. Visit for an afternoon and learn about their way of life, or spend a night fly camping beside a Bushmen settlement.

Why We Like It

This safari showcases not just two of Botswana’s most fascinating areas, but also two of the greatest contemporary-styled lodges that the country has to offer. Mixing wildlife with culture and relaxation, it offers a true diversity of experiences.

Travel from Maun to Okavango Delta (Air Transfer Journey)

The Okavango Delta is one of the world's largest and most beautiful inland water systems, with perpetual and seasonal swamps and floodplains. Its waterways glisten like the fine silks of a spider's web and its numerous habitats offer superb breeding grounds for an abundance of wildlife. Depending on camp, activities centre on game drives, mekoro (local dugout canoe) trips, walking and horseback safaris. It is therefore a must for any first time visitor to Botswana.

You will be staying at Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge

Day 3

Day 5

Travel from Okavango Delta to Kalahari Desert (Air Transfer Journey)

The Central Kalahari Game Reserve is vast and remote. It is an area of stunning vistas and vast night skies, of salt pans, deserts and grasslands - all transformed by the changing seasons.

It is also the second largest wildlife reserve in the world, covering a massive 52,000 square kilometres. Many desert species thrive here. However the rains late in the year bring the area to life and attract the last significant migration to survive in Southern Africa.

As the home to the hunter-gatherer clans of the San Bushmen of the Kalahari, it also offers the chance of a rare glimpse into their way of life - a real privilege.

Jackie Pearson, Travel Expert

"Every part of our trip was the highlight and it is not possible for us to point out just one thing, event or place."

"However, we received a magnificent surprise of a helicopter ride between camps in Botswana which meant a flight over the delta and an opportunity to see the delta and how it is formed. It was a wonderful surprise organised by Jackie and we were both absolutely overjoyed with the opportunity. I do not believe that there was more that could have been done as we had a magnificent trip."

"Jackie was excellent- she listened and was very knowledgeable."
