Leatherback Turtle, French Guiana

There is a bewildering array of accommodation options across South Africa, however there is more to see other than Cape Town and the Garden route. Natal has some fabulous places, wild and exhilirating with very welcoming people and an array of activities. Below are a collection of my favourite camps from Isibindi found in the Kruger National Park and in the province of Natal.
They can be combined to create superb and varied safari packages that can be booked through Illona, please call her on 01285650011.

THONGA BEACH LODGE - Elephant Coast KZN
Set on a beautiful private sandy beach on the coast, Thonga has just 12 rooms. It offers superb snorkelling and scuba diving with a great diversity of underwater seascapes and marine flora and fauna. Other activities include visits to Lake Sibaya for bird-watching, guided wilderness walks, turtle tracking (Nov-Feb), fishing and cultural experiences.

ISBINDI ZULU LODGE - Battlefields, KZN
Just a stone's throw away from the historic Zulu battlefields of Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana, the lodge is located on a 4,000 acre private game reserve - home to abundant game, and there is excellent bird watching. Inspired by the traditional Zulu beehive shape, each of the 6 rooms has its own viewing deck overlooking the reserve and the surrounding hills including Rorke’s Drift.

RHINO POST LODGE Kruger Private Concession
A 12,000 hectare private wilderness concession in Kruger NP is home to the lodge, bordering Mala Mala and Sabi Sand, ensuring great game viewing. Set on the banks of the Mutlumuvi, it’s an elegant 8 room property, which also has exclusive use of some of Kruger NP’s public roads for evening drives, well after public gates close.

PLAINS CAMP Kruger Private Concession
With four luxury African explorer-style tents with en-suite facilities. Walking trails (with armed, professional guides) to explore the local area start before breakfast and also late in the afternoon. Walks last 3-4 hrs dependant upon guest requirements. For a totally unique experience, guests can walk to their ‘Sleepouts’ – elevated wooden platforms 4 metres high where the night can be spent sleeping outdoors under the stars!

KOSI FOREST LODGE Elephant Coast KZN
This charming lodge is situated in an unspoilt wilderness just down from the Mozambique border. Its eight rooms offer great accommodation and it caters for a host of estuarine, beach and wilderness activities. These include guided canoeing, boat trips on the lakes, forest walks and trips to nearby beaches.
