On 11 July a total solar eclipse crossed the Pacific Ocean along an 11,000 km arc and Easter Island was one of the few locations from which this spectacular sight could be seen. The eclipse started in Tonga before crossing the Pacific and ending over the far south of Chile and Argentina.
