Within 72 hours of departing a cold March day in London Heathrow I had experienced a plethora of wildlife, ancient and undisturbed ecosystems, meandering rivers, pristine and virgin rainforest, spicy fish dishes, warm hospitality with smiling faces and even warmer temperatures, reaching the mid 30's by lunch time. Oh to feel the sun on the shoulders! It really has been a long and cold winter this year - I had found the perfect antidote.
The wildlife sightings in the small state of Sabah, East Malaysia are incredible. You can expect to see crocodile in the muddy banks of the Kinabatangan River, the Proboscis Monkey in the trees of the jungle, the protected Orang Utan, if you are lucky, building his nest on the high branches at dusk. The call of the hornbill and the flight of the sea eagle. Once the fiery sun sinks into the earth below the nocturnal animals sing a new chorus. The tree frogs, Viper snakes , owls, and civet cats, wild boar, come to the forefront of this natural stage.
As a holiday destination Borneo is full of educative fun for the children, a birders paradise, and a beach destination with a protected marine coral. The summer months are the ideal time to travel, unlike other areas in Asia. Please do call me on 01285 651010 to discuss ideas for your family holiday this summer.
