New 7 Wonders

South America has been recognised as having two of the "New 7 wonders of the world", Machu Picchu in Peru and Christ Redeemer in Brazil, I have been lucky enough to visit both of these amazing places and would certainly recommend a visit to anyone.

The Incan citadel of Machu Picchu is situated on top of the mountain with the same name, close to the small town of Aguas Calientes. It certainly lives up to its reputation of being an awe-inspiring place, not only the ruins themselves but also the breathtaking scenery around them. It is an incredible feeling walking around the famed 15th century citadel perched amidst the cloud forest, admiring the huge and perfect example of the Incan architectural ingenuity.

Christ Redeemer is situated on top of Corcovado mountain overlooking the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro. It took five years to construct during the late 1920's and stands 38 meters tall. It can be seen from most places in the city and totally takes your breath away when you arrive at its base and look up to the face of the statue. The panoramic views from the top of Corcovado are also stunning, across the city, bays and beaches.
