A little more about the Stann Creek
Stann Creek covers a large part of the South Coast of Belize as well as the mountainous jungle inland. A number of villages dot the coast where various cultures dominate. Dangriga is the capital of the Stann Creek district and is a transport hub and commercial fishing centre. Here visitors will find a strong Garifuna influence. The Garifuna people are descendents of African slaves and indigenous Caribs who have a language, musical style, and dance all of their own.
15 miles south of Dangriga is the Garifuna village of Hopkins located on a beautiful curve of white sands. Here the locals continue to fish, carve canoes and make drums as their ancestors did before. Finally at the tip of a spit lies Placencia, the main destination that visitors flock to for some of Belize's most spectacular beaches and wildlife opportunities and laidback charm of the Creole people.
When to go to Belize
The best time to take a holiday to Belize's Stann Creek is November through to May.
