Cuba is famous for its long stretches of beautiful white sandy beaches and the numerous small beach islands that dot its coastline.
Whilst beaches such as Varadero are world-renowned and well established with international hotels, water sports and golf courses, Cayo Coco and Cayo Largo are new areas with a few luxury hotels in beautiful surroundings. A common reaction to these areas, however, is the feeling of isolation as local Cubans are excluded from many beaches.
For livelier pursuits, visit the beaches of Guanabo or Juragua, where the Cubans themselves enjoy the sun, sea and sand. Alternatively, for peace and relaxation, the cays along the coastline are a perfect retreat.
