Heading south out of Quito lies some of the most beautiful mountain scenery and dramatic landscapes in Ecuador. The route, aptly named the 'Avenue of Volcanoes', is shadowed on either side by the imposing snow-capped, conical peaks of Illinizas, Cotopaxi, Chimborazo and Tungurahua.
