When visiting big countries such as Argentina, it is hard to know where to start. So, with this in mind, our definitive itinerary includes some of the key destinations and if you never make it back, you will know you will have captured some of the very best highlights.
Kick off with a few nights in the incredible capital city of Buenos Aires which has a wealth of shopping and sites to enjoy by day and a vast number of gourmet restaurants and music venues to enjoy by night. Enjoy mouthwatering steak and fine wines before heading to a milonga to embrace the tango scene.
Continue your journey to Iguazu for three nights visiting the thundering falls from both the Argentinean and Brazilian side. Due to the subtropical location there are excellent birding opportunities here too. Finally travel to Calafate to witness the amazing Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the few active glaciers left. Experience trekking on the ice itself or approach the face by boat and marvel at the blue hues and witness gigantic ice carvings that crack and crash to the lake below.

Day at leisure in Buenos Aires
Known as 'The Paris of Latin America', Buenos Aires is quite simply one of the world's greatest cosmopolitan cities. World class museums and leading restaurants jostle for space with boutique shops and antique markets, and the colonial architecture and cobbled streets of San Telmo contrast with the modern lines and waterfront designs of up and coming Puerto Madero. It is a city with a colourful and fascinating history, which has given rise to a variety of neighbourhoods from the uber trendy Palermo Soho to the bohemian charm of La Boca, the birth place of tango.

Half Day City TourA fascinating 4-hour tour of the elegant turn-of-the-century districts that earned Buenos Aires the sobriquet 'the Paris of South America'. Begin the tour on the charming cobbled alleyways of San Telmo with its colonial architecture, before moving on to the Plaza de Mayo that is dominated by the the government house Casa Rosada, the Nación Bank, the cathedral and the original parliament houses. Continue up the leafy Avenida de Mayo towards the imposing grandeur of the Palace of Congress, before ending your tour at the historically fascinating Recoleta Cemetery. Discover the facts, stories and anecdotes that make up the colourful tapestry that is Buenos Aires.
Fly Buenos Aires to Iguazu
Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil meet where the Iguazú river joins the Paraná river in the north-eastern Argentinean province of Misiones. It is here that the Iguazú Falls (meaning 'Big Water' in the local Guaraní language) plunges over hard granite into a wide gorge in a series of gigantic waterfalls measuring two miles in length and plunging more than 240 feet below. The thunderous roar of crashing water and the multicoloured mist that rises above the falls is an incredible, awe-inspiring sight that has lost none of its impact since first discovered by Europeans in 1542.

Half day Argentina side of fallsHalf day private excursion to the Argentine side of the falls, walking along wooden walkways right over some of the smaller falls surrounded by lush sub-tropical jungle. A highlight of this side of the falls are the huge number of butterflies and the coatimundi - small racoon-like animals - that run around the pathways. You may like to do the Gran Aventura boat ride up to the falls afterwards (at extra cost). It is an exhilarating ride but you will get very wet...
Half day Brazil side of fallsPrivate half day tour of the Brazilian side of the falls. Located in the Iguaçu National Park, one of the largest reserves of sub-tropical jungle, the Cataratas are formed by 240 different cascades. Descend the walkway for a fantastic panoramic view and return by glass elevator.
Fly Iguazu to El Calafate
Calafate lies on the shores of Lago Argentino, one of the largest lakes in Argentina. Originally a small outpost catering to the local wool trade, due to its convenient proximity to the Perito Moreno glacier and the Los Glaciares National Park, in recent years the town has experienced phenomenal growth and is now a very comfortable base from which to explore the area with excellent facilities for visitors.
