The damming of Lake Arenal in 1974 flooded the local town, and its inhabitants were relocated to what is known today as La Fortuna. It is said that on a very calm and clear day it is possible to see the roof tops of the old ghost town 27m below the surface of Lake Arenal. Appreciated by international windsurfers taking advantage of the constant wind that sweeps across the western side of the lake, it is also popular with anglers for bass fishing.
