Both the Aleksey Maryshev and Grigoriy Mikheev are ideally suited for expedition cruising, with ice-strengthened hulls and passive stabilisers. Originally used for polar and oceanographic research, they were then converted for passenger use and refurbished. The vessels accommodate 48 passengers in twin and triple cabins, with a choice of shared and private bathroom facilities. The public areas include interconnecting dining rooms, a cosy lounge/bar/library, infirmary and sauna. Each ship has a large bridge where you are almost always welcome, and good open deck-viewing areas. They carry a full complement of Zodiac craft, excellent for landings and wildlife viewing opportunities in otherwise in-accessible areas. The experienced team of naturalists and lecturers are complimented by the Russian crew and international team of chefs producing tasty, hearty fare.
