Georgia Holidays

Bordered by the Caucasus mountains to the north and the Black Sea to the west, Georgia has just about everything a country can offer and will, in time, become one of the most popular destinations. In winter, the jagged alpine peaks provide miles and miles of superb heli-skiing and, while accommodation is still limited, it has become a very popular and cheaper alternative to Canada.

In summer the mountains are unbelievably green and there is some excellent trekking which allows access to remote valleys where electricity is unknown, cars have never penetrated and an almost medieval atmosphere prevails. Lower down, the terrain and atmosphere is more Italianesque. The summers are hot, there are huge vineyards, isolated rural communities and yet everywhere there is a sense of history and culture. Many of the Orthodox churches date from the 10th and 11th centuries and it is not unusual to find original frescoes from those times.

The coast was a favourite holiday spot for Russians during the socialist years and, although the towns have been largely deserted in favour of Dubai and Turkey, there is a move to regenerate business and new hotels are starting to be built.

Travel to Georgia is a rare experience. The food is excellent, music and poetry play an important role for every family and the people are unbelievably hospitable, kind and full of fun. Hotels range from large multinational 5 stars to simple, clean, family run pensions with all kinds of categories in between. Go before it is discovered by the rest of the world.
